2026: Website Redesign, API Modernization, and a New Chapter

3 min read

The start of 2026 has been one of the most productive periods in OrbVPN's history. We launched a full website redesign, modernized our API documentation for our new Go-based backend services, wrote comprehensive tutorials covering every feature in the app, and launched a new checkout and authentication flow. This post covers what we have accomplished and where we are headed.

Complete Website Redesign

A ground-up rebuild of our public-facing website:

  • Modern design language with glass morphism and fluid animations
  • Dedicated product pages for each service: VPN, OrbGuard, Hylon AI, OrbMesh, SmartDNS
  • Country-specific and use-case pages for VPN users
  • Platform-specific download and setup pages
  • Comprehensive pricing, comparison, and feature pages
  • Redesigned navigation with organized dropdown menus
  • Custom icon system replacing third-party icon libraries

API Documentation Modernization

Complete restructure reflecting our backend migration:

  • Documentation for three core services: OrbNET, OrbMesh, and OrbGuard
  • REST, gRPC, and WebSocket endpoint coverage
  • Authentication and authorization guides
  • Rate limiting and error handling documentation
  • OpenAPI specification support with automated documentation generation
  • Developer guides for common integration patterns

Comprehensive Tutorial Library

Eighty-one tutorial pages organized across eleven sections:

  • Getting started guides covering account creation, first connection, and app navigation
  • VPN tutorials for protocols, servers, split tunneling, and bridge mode
  • Security tutorials covering all OrbGuard tools
  • Wallet and token system guides
  • OrbMesh networking documentation
  • Account management including profile, subscription, and device management
  • Platform-specific setup guides for all seven supported platforms
  • Support resources including AI chat, live support, and troubleshooting

Authentication and Checkout Flow

A complete user journey from discovery to subscription:

  • Magic link email authentication for passwordless sign-in
  • Secure session management with HTTP-only cookies
  • Stripe-powered checkout for subscription plans
  • Device limit management and session handling
  • Account registration integrated directly into the website

Domain Consolidation

Unified web presence under a single domain:

  • Consolidated documentation, marketing, and product pages
  • Improved SEO with comprehensive metadata
  • Structured sitemap covering all public pages
  • Consistent branding across the entire web presence

Help Center API

New backend integration for in-app support:

  • API routes serving help content to mobile applications
  • Searchable knowledge base accessible from within the app
  • Category-based content organization
  • Featured articles and contextual help delivery

Infrastructure and Performance

Technical improvements supporting the new site:

  • Over 650 statically generated pages for fast load times
  • Edge middleware for intelligent routing
  • Optimized asset delivery and image handling
  • Automated build and deployment pipeline

Looking Ahead

Our focus for the rest of 2026:

  • Continued expansion of tutorial content with visual guides
  • Enhanced developer API documentation as services evolve
  • Ongoing website improvements based on user feedback
  • Deeper integration between web platform and mobile applications
  • Expanded language support for documentation and tutorials

A Personal Note

What we accomplished in early 2026 is something I am genuinely proud of. The website redesign was not merely cosmetic, it was about presenting OrbVPN as the comprehensive digital security platform it has become. For years, our web presence did not fully reflect the breadth of what we offer. That has changed.

The API documentation modernization was driven by a practical need. Our backend services migrated from a Java-based GraphQL architecture to Go-based REST, gRPC, and WebSocket services. Documenting these properly is both a commitment to transparency and an investment in our developer ecosystem. When developers can understand and integrate with our services, everyone benefits.

Writing eighty-one tutorial pages was an exercise in thoroughness. We cross-referenced every screen in our Flutter application against the documentation to identify gaps. The result is a tutorial library that covers every feature the app offers, from basic VPN connectivity to advanced security tools and token management. No feature is left undocumented.

The checkout and authentication flow represents something important: reducing friction. A passwordless magic link system, integrated directly into the website with Stripe-powered payments, means that going from interest to active subscription is as smooth as we can make it.

I want to acknowledge that this pace of development was only possible because of the strong foundation built in previous years, the Flutter app, the Azure infrastructure, the protocol portfolio, the security suite. Everything we launched in early 2026 is built on years of steady work.

To our users: the new website and documentation are built for you. We want every feature to be understandable, every process to be clear, and every question to have an answer. To our team: delivering this scope of work in such a short timeframe, while maintaining quality, reflects the dedication that has defined OrbVPN from the beginning.

This is just the start of 2026, and there is much more to come. I look forward to sharing our progress throughout the year.
