Network Types
OrbMesh Network Types
Choose the right network type for your needs. OrbMesh supports Private networks for personal use, Team networks for organizations, and Public networks for community participation.
Overview
OrbMesh is designed to serve different use cases with three distinct network types. Each type provides different levels of access control, discoverability, and management capabilities. You can participate in multiple networks simultaneously.
Private Network
Your personal mesh. Only your own devices can join. Ideal for remote access to home computers, file sharing, and private communication.
Team Network
Shared mesh for organizations. Invite team members, manage access roles, and enforce security policies across the group.
Public Network
Open community mesh. Contribute bandwidth and resources to the global network and earn ORB tokens in return.
Private Networks
Private networks are designed for individual users who want to connect their own devices securely. This is the most common network type and the best starting point for new OrbMesh users.
Key Characteristics
Owner-Only Access
Only devices authenticated with your OrbVPN account can join the Private network. No external participants.
Full Encryption
All traffic between devices is encrypted end-to-end. Even OrbVPN cannot read your data in transit.
Direct Connections
Devices establish direct P2P connections for minimum latency. Relay nodes are used only when necessary.
Unlimited Devices
Add as many personal devices as you want to your Private network without additional cost.
Use Cases for Private Networks
Remote Desktop Access
Access your home or office computer securely from anywhere. OrbMesh creates a direct connection as if you were on the same local network.
Secure File Sharing
Transfer files directly between your devices without uploading to cloud services. Your data never touches a third-party server.
Home Lab Access
Connect to self-hosted services, NAS devices, or home servers from outside your home network with full security.
Team Networks
Team networks extend the mesh concept to groups of people. They include management features for organizations that need to provide secure connectivity to multiple users.
Key Characteristics
Multi-User Access
Invite team members by email or invite link. Each member authenticates with their own OrbVPN account.
Role-Based Permissions
Assign roles (Admin, Member, Viewer) to control what each team member can access and configure within the network.
Policy Enforcement
Admins can set network-wide security policies including required encryption levels and approved device types.
Centralized Management
Monitor all connected devices, active sessions, and bandwidth usage from the Team admin dashboard.
Setting Up a Team Network
Create Team Network
From the OrbMesh dashboard, tap 'Create Network' and select 'Team'. Provide a network name and description.
Invite Members
Add team members by entering their email addresses or generating a shareable invite link with a configurable expiration time.
Assign Roles
Set each member's role. Admins can manage the network, Members can connect their devices, and Viewers have read-only access.
Configure Policies
Set security policies such as required protocol versions, approved device platforms, and bandwidth limits per member.
Enterprise Teams
For large organizations, Team networks support bulk member imports, Active Directory integration, and automated onboarding. Contact OrbVPN for enterprise deployment assistance.
Public Networks
Public networks form the backbone of the OrbMesh community. By joining the Public network, you contribute bandwidth and computing resources to help create a truly decentralized internet infrastructure.
Key Characteristics
Community Driven
Thousands of participants worldwide contribute to the Public network, creating a resilient and distributed mesh.
Token Rewards
Earn ORB tokens proportional to the bandwidth and uptime you contribute to the Public network.
Privacy Protected
Public network nodes relay encrypted traffic. Node operators cannot read the data passing through their nodes.
Global Coverage
The Public network spans dozens of countries, providing low-latency connectivity worldwide.
Joining the Public Network
Navigate to Public Networks
From the OrbMesh dashboard, tap 'Public Network' to view the global community mesh and available participation options.
Review Terms
Read the Public network contribution terms, including bandwidth expectations and reward structure.
Join and Contribute
Tap 'Join' to add your device to the Public network. Your device begins relaying traffic and earning ORB tokens.
Monitor Earnings
Track your ORB token earnings and contribution statistics in the Wallet section of the OrbVPN app.
Resource Usage
Public network participation uses your spare bandwidth and computing resources. You can set limits on how much bandwidth OrbMesh is allowed to use so it never interferes with your own internet usage.
